EAA Chapter 414 Annual Dinner - 3/6/04
This past Saturday I attended the annual banquet of Chapter 414 of the Experimental Aircraft Association as a guest of my father-in-law, Paul. Every year it's a good opportunity to see some friends and win some good raffle and door prizes. This year I went away with a free flight in a Piper Cub! I've wanted to fly in a Cub for some time now, so I was thrilled to be able to win it. I think everybody at my table got something they could use. We all had a good time.
Aside from the comraderie, the highlight of the evening was a presentation by Jim and Steve Hay, the builders of the engine for the replica 1903 Wright Flyer that was part of the 100th anniversary of flight celebration at Kitty Hawk last December. They are the recognized experts in Wright Flyer engine technology with over 27 years experience building them. They brought along a sample engine casting and parts, as well as a cutaway model of one cylinder to show how it worked. Their presentation was full of fascinating information and anecdotes.Introduction
This weblog is an attempt at a photoblog and journal to replace my old dragonseye photoblogs which featured only photos taken with my eyemodule camera. Since we got our first "real" digital camera, the eyemodule hasn't seen much use, and the dragonseye format was just tedious enough that I wasn't very motivated to keep it up. We have our photo album pages also, but those require some work too, so hopefully this blog will be easier to use and fill in the gaps between the photo album pages. I hope to update the template for this blog to make it more visually compatible with the rest of the dvierow.com website.
